Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American TV journalist anchor and commentator for NBC News based in Washington D.C. After growing up in New York City, Mitchell received a degree in English literature at The University of Pennsylvania. In the year 1967, Mitchell began her career as a reporter with KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. In 1976, she joined the CBS-affiliate WDVM-TV in Washington DC (then WTOP). She became a Washington general reporter for NBC News two years later. She began to cover the White House in 1981 and was appointed chief congressional correspondent in 1988. She was made as the head White House correspondent by NBC News in 1992. Mitchell is a regular on the TV news show Meet the Press as a panelist and host. She served as a panelist during the presidential debates in 1988 between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell got married to Alan Greenspan the former chairman of Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has been awarded numerous times for journalism excellence, including her Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. The award was presented to her by the Leonard Zeidenberg Award from the Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell covered in the White House first for NBC News between 1981 and 1988, in the two years that Ronald Reagan served as president. Mitchell reported on many noteworthy issues, such as the arm control, the budget tax as well as the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also went to various summits while in the company of President Reagan together with Mikhail Gorbachev.
